GCP Workshop


Good Clinical Practice (GCP) workshop was successfully organized by Medical Education Unit of Medical College, Kolkata in collaboration with The West Bengal University of Health Sciences on 19th April, 2022. More than 50 participants from different Pre, Para & Clinical Departments attended the training. The workshop was inaugurated by Prof. (Dr.). Debasis Bhattacharya, Director of Medical Education, Department of Health and FW, Govt. of West Bengal; Prof. (Dr.) Raghunath Mishra, Principal, Medical College, Kolkata; Prof. (Dr.) Sabyasachi Das, MSVP, Medical College, Kolkata; Prof. (Dr.) Manab Nandy, Dean of student’s affairs, Medical College, Kolkata and Prof. (Dr.) Krishnanshu Ray, Medical Director, Peerless Hospital and B.K.Roy Research Centre. The registration started sharp at 9.30 am followed by welcome address of Principal Medical College, Kolkata. After the pre test session eminent faculties from respective fields took different thought provoking sessions. The workshop began with the talk of Prof.

(Dr.) Krishnanshu Ray on ‘Overview of GCP’. The subsequent sessions were on ‘Regulations and guidelines like new drug rules 2019’, ‘Role and responsibilities of the sponsors’, ‘Role and responsibilities of IEC’ and ‘Role and responsibility of the investigators’, taken by Prof. (Dr.) Santanu Munshi, Prof & Head, Department of Clinical and Experimental Pharmacology, School of Tropical Medicine; Prof (Dr.) Kalpana Dutta, Professor, Pediatric Medicine and Program Director of Pediatric Centre of Excellence of HIV Care’ Medical College, Kolkata; Prof. (Dr.) Manab Nandy, Dean of students affairs and Professor of Pharmacology, Medical College, Kolkata and Prof. (Dr.) Maitrayee Bhattacharya, Director, Institute of Haematology and in-charge Multi disciplinary Research Unit, Medical College, Kolkata respectively. In the second half, The Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of The West Bengal University of Health Sciences, Prof. (Dr.) Suhrita Paul took a very interactive session on role of informed consent in clinical trial. The workshop ended with discussion on another very important session on ‘Safety reporting of clinical trial and compensation issues’ by Prof. (Dr.) Avijit Hazra, Dean of Students affairs and Professor of Pharmacology IPGMER and SSKM Hospital. Finally in the valedictory sessions the certificates were distributed. Seeing the overwhelming response to the faculties, it was decided that similar type of workshop will be conducted in near future. The program ended with vote of thanks by MSV, Medical College, Kolkata.
